Flindor Cottage, located just off the A1120 tourist route and within easy reach of the magnificent Suffolk Heritage Coast, is surrounded by numerous tourist attractions.

Panther Charters, Walberswick, Suffolk

Panther, skippered by Mark Felton, proprietor of Flindor Cottage is an Offshore 2000, 30’ angling boat, which cruises comfortably at 22 knots. She is moored on the Walberswick bank of Southwold Harbour and only 5 minutes from the harbour entrance.

Our part of the North Sea offers the chance of many different fishing methods, both inshore and offshore, with a good variety of species coming to the net, depending on the time of year. We welcome you to join us and enjoy the sport, whether you are keen amateurs or experienced anglers.

Framlingham Castle

This is one of the most important and beautiful medieval castles in the British Isles, built by Hugh Bigod c.1190. Opening times vary, so please check the website.

Orford Castle

A unique polygonal towerkeep which stands beside the pretty town and former port which Henry II developed here in the 1160s. His aim was to counterbalance the power of turbulent East Anglian barons like Hugh Bigod of Framlingham, and to guard the coast against foreign mercenaries called to their aid.

Saxtead Green Post Mill

This mill whose whole body revolves on its base, was one of many built in Suffolk from the late 13th century. Though milling ceased in 1947, it is still in working order. Climb the stairs to various floors, which are full of fascinating mill machinery. Opening times vary, please check the website.

Woodbridge Tide Mill

This may be one of the earliest tide mills in the UK. First recorded in 1170, operated by the Augustinian Canons. In 1536 it passed to King Henry VIII. In 1564, Queen Elizabeth I granted the mill to Thomas Seckford. It was certainly the last working tide mill in the UK. The wheel last turned in 1957, when the 22 inch square oak main shaft broke. Open every day from 11:00 to 16:30 from 5 April to October, but closed the rest of the year.

Helmingham Hall Gardens

These gardens make a perfect day out for everyone. There is a relaxed atmosphere for visitors to enjoy the serenity and tranquillity of the gardens, to loose themselves in the plethora of colour, scents and history. It is recommended to allow 2 hours to visit the gardens however most people stay much longer taking the opportunity to enjoy a delicious lunch or a cream tea in the Coach House and to visit the gift shop, produce and plant stall. Open from 3 May to 20 September (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday 12.00 – 17:00)

Otley Hall

This stunningly beautiful 16th century moated Hall is still a family home, set in 10 acres of gardens in the tranquil Suffolk countryside. The gardens were placed 6th in a poll recently undertaken by The Independent in the ʺTop 50 Best British Gardens to Visitʺ and came second in the ʹgardens with significant architectureʹ category. The gardens and cafe are open every Wednesday from 11:00 to 17:00 from May to September.

Shawsgate Vineyard

This winery in Framlingham is currently open on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00. to 16:00. You can visit the vineyard at any time free of charge and you are welcome to wander, picnic and relax amongst the vines. A great place to watch the seasons change.

Snape Maltings

The maltings offer shops, exhibitions, food and drink, historic buildings, river walks, farmers markets and much much more. For details of forthcoming events check the Snape Maltings website.

Sutton Hoo

This is one of Britainʹs most important and atmospheric archaeological sites. It is the burial ground of the Anglo-Saxon kings of East Anglia where priceless royal treasures were discovered in a huge ship grave. The exhibition hall tells the compelling story of early English history. Open most days from 11:00 to 16:00, but please check the website.

Orford Ness National Nature Reserve and Dunwich Heath & Beach

Two National Trust areas well worth a visit, and next door to Dunwich you will find Minsmere, a RSPB reserve.

Suffolk Owl Sanctuary

Based at the Stonham Barns complex in Stonham Aspel, it offers visitors the chance to see owls and other birds of prey both tethered and in flying displays. Open daily from 10:00 to dusk/ late afternoon.
